Registration is open for 10-month and 15-week* workforce development programs at Minuteman Technical Institute (MTI), the adult evening division of Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School District, in such high-demand trades as automotive, cosmetology, electricity, facilities management, CNC machine operation, carpentry, robotic technician and welding. MTI also plans to offer a veterinary assisting program this fall and will share details when completed.
Classes begin in August or September, depending on the program. Visit minutemanti.org to learn about the admissions process and register. Classes are held weekday evenings and Saturday mornings depending on the program. Minuteman Technical Institute is open to any student over 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.

Minuteman Technical Institute will hold programs for automotive technology, cosmetology and electricity from August to June 2023. Tuition payment plans are available; additional tuition support may be possible for students ages 18-24 or for anyone who is unemployed or under-employed. Automotive Technology August 22, 2022-June 30, 2023 Monday-Thursday, 4:30-10:00 PM The automotive technology program is designed to prepare students for a challenging and rewarding career in the ever-changing automotive industry. Students will have a mix of time in a classroom and in Minuteman’s automotive shop where they can engage in hands-on repairs of motor vehicles. Students who complete the program can receive up to eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications, along with the Hotwork Certification and OSHA 10-Hour General Safety Certification. Automotive Technology is an approved Chapter 74 vocational-technical program by the Mass. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Learn more. Cosmetology August 15, 2022-June 30, 2023 Monday-Thursday, 4:30-10:00 PM Cosmetology is a creative field that often attracts entrepreneurs who want to start their own businesses. At Minuteman Technical Institute, students gain the 1,000 hours of instruction necessary to qualify for the state licensing exam. The program offers a mix of classroom and hands-on work as students perform hair and beauty services on customers from the public in The Salon @ Minuteman. Students who complete the program can receive the MTI Cosmetology Certificate, OSHA 10-Hour Cosmetology Safety Certification, and First Aid/CPR/AED certification. The Cosmetology program is an approved Chapter 74 vocational-technical program by DESE. Learn more. Electricity August 22, 2022-June 30, 2023 Monday and Wednesday, 4:30-10:00 PM Saturday, 7:00 AM-2:00 PM Electricity is geared toward students who want to become licensed electricians. Students who successfully complete the program will be prepared for entry into the electrical skilled trades industry, including for apprenticeship. Students will receive a combination of classroom and hands-on learning in Minuteman’s electrical shop, which includes numerous circuitry and electrical panels in a controlled environment. Students will use the course to obtain 700 hours of learning experience, with at least 300 hours in classroom theory and at least 400 hours of practical experience to be used toward a Journeyman’s Electrical License. Minuteman Technical Institute’s 15-week programs beginning in September 2022 are CNC Machine Operator, Carpentry Pre-Apprentice, Facilities Management, Robotic Technician, and Welding. (*Facilities management is a 12-week program but contains the minimum 200 hours of instruction as the 15-week programs.) All the 15-week courses are free for qualified applicants with a focus on unemployed or under-employed individuals, which includes recent high school graduates. The courses are funded through grants from the Governor’s Workforce Skills Cabinet. Anyone interested participating in these courses must apply through a designated MassHire Career Center: MassHire Metro North in Cambridge; MassHire Metro South/West in Framingham; and MassHire North Central in Leominster. CNC Machine Operator September 6-December 21, 2022 Tuesday-Thursday, 4:30-10:00 PM CNC Machine Operator provides students a combination of classroom and hands-on learning experience with computer numeric control (CNC) machines. In this 200-hour program, students build skills toward employment as a CNC machine operator with an emphasis on CNC programming, SolidWorks software, workplace safety, communication, blueprint reading, and project planning. Employment of machinists is projected to grow 4 percent by 2029, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, to keep up with improvements in technologies, such as autoloaders, high-speed machining, and lights-out manufacturing. Carpentry Pre-Apprentice September 6-December 21, 2022 Tuesday and Thursday, 4:30-10:00 PM Saturday, 7:30 AM-2:00 PM Carpentry Pre-Apprentice is a 200-hour program that is held in collaboration with the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (NASRCC) and the North Atlantic States Carpenters Training Fund (NASCTF) with instructors who have many years of field experience. Training takes place in Minuteman’s carpentry shop, the Carpenter’s Training Centers in Dorchester and Millbury, and live construction sites in the area. Participants gain skills in proper use of hand tools and equipment, framing, concrete work, project management, and more. Participants who complete the program receive industry recognized certifications, including OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Scaffold Use, and Mobile Elevated Work Platform. Students who successfully complete the program can be placed immediately into an apprenticeship position. Learn more. Facilities Management Sept. 6-Nov. 21, Weekday 4:30-10 PM; Exact Class Schedule Being Finalized The 200-hour Facilities Management program courses are being taught in collaboration with the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), an experienced provider of pre-employment facilities management training. Facility managers are responsible for a range of systems within an organization to ensure they are operative effectively and harmoniously. Oftentimes, facility managers oversee an organization’s largest and most valuable assets, such as property, buildings, inventory, and employee productivity. Participants who complete the program receive industry recognized certifications, including OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety, Hot Work, Facility Management Professional, Sustainable Facility Professional, and Certified Facility Professional. Learn more. Robotic Technician Sept. 6-Dec. 21, Monday-Thursday, 4:30-10:00 PM Robotic Technician is a 200-hour program that prepares students for entry-level positions as robotics technicians. Once trained, program completers will be equipped to enter the workforce with skills in building, installing, testing, and maintaining robotic equipment or related automated production systems. Students will receive a combination of classroom learning and hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment in Minuteman’s engineering and robotics lab. Students will obtain the following industry recognized credentials: OSHA 10-Hour Safety, Hot Work, and others. Learn more. Welding Sept. 6-Dec. 21, Jan. 10-April 20, 2023 Monday-Thursday, 4:30-10:00 PM Welding is a 270-hour program in which students obtain hands-on experience in Minuteman’s welding shop through a curriculum that provides practical skills in welding theory and welding practice. Students are trained in many forms of welding using up-to-date equipment, including but not limited to oxyacetylene cutting and welding, resistance welding, soldering, arc gouging and cutting, gas arc, shielded metal arc welding, and more. Students will obtain the following certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety, Hot Work, American Welding Society d1.1, and Mass. Highway D1.5. Hours and experience can be used toward attaining an apprenticeship and Ironworker Journeyman’s License following the completion of the program. Learn more.
