"The population most addicted to drugs in Cameroon is between 13 and 15 years old"When we talk about drugs, how many types of drugs are there?I want to keep it simple, two types of drugs. The so-called licit drugs and the so-called illicit drugs.Legal drugs are tobacco and alcohol. These are drugs that are regulated and controlled by our regulations, in particular, marketing. There are many illicit drugs. These are the ones that are not authorized, that are prohibited from use.The main drug currently consumed in Cameroon is Cannabis. This substance called banga, weed, marijuana, and many other drugs like cocaine.According to the figures that come to us from our police forces, these drugs are also consumed in Cameroon.Isn't the fight against drugs a losing battle? One could have the impression that it is lost in advance with regard to the extent of the situation which will cretiendo, whether in the category of the youngest than in the active population. However, in the case of Cameroon, in the 2000s, the survey that was conducted showed that we were at a prevalence of 25%.And the efforts mobilized by the actors since that date show today that this prevalence has dropped by 4 points. What is the segment of the population that is most addicted to drugs today in Cameroon? It's the one between 13 and 15 years old.For cannabis alone, they are 5.4%.And the one who is also worrying is that of 24 to 30 years old.Because this slice says, we are idle, we have diplomas, we cannot manage our worries. What is worrying is more and more young people are using drugs at school, in high schools, in colleges, especially what is called tramol. What are you doing to block the way to drug use, especially these tramols?I would like to reassure you, not all students use drugs. It is important that I convey this message to young people.Tramols are only a specialty of tramadol. This tramol was banned from marketing in Cameroon by a decision of the Minister of Health (minsanté).This is a very dangerous product.Tramadol is a painkiller that must be prescribed by a doctor who knows the pain well. The Minsanté asks young people not to start.Because the path of drugs is a path of no return. It's easy to tell kids like that not to do drugs. The drug purchasing channels are known.Sometimes the cobbler in the neighborhood knows that some people sell drugs, is there something coercive that the Minsanté has put in place to block the way to the consumption of drugs. The government has taken action. Not just the Ministry of Public Health.A school security company has been set up.This company works within the framework of a platform with the prevention center which is located at the Yaoundé central hospital. The Minsanté has set up addiction prevention care centers in all regional hospitals.Today, 14 specialized units are operational and active. They are ready to welcome the affected parents, the infected children. The General Delegate for National Security is doing a wonderful job with his troops No tolerance, we have set up an airport anti-trafficking cell which is there to transmit information in real time. The Sed has also worked in this direction. The DG of Customs too.Equipment has been put in place to try to improve this scourge. If your child tells you that he uses drugs, what will your reaction be?I should accept it first. Then, it is not a question of rejecting him, but of understanding how why he took the drug.Once we have understood, we also try to give him information on the harmful effects associated with these substances that he has consumed for whatever reason and get him to leave. And for that, we have to engage in a weaning process. It is a very difficult process that requires discipline. The family will have to play an important role. This also requires the involvement of the child not to do it again.Your email address will not be published.Mandatory fields are marked with *Our website uses cookies to improve your experience.Find out more about: Cookie policy
