Professional Tool Reviews for Pros
Inefficient consumable use can be a big contributing factor to unnecessary overhead costs and wasted time, especially in the realm of construction. The Hilti Nuron 22V Cordless Adhesive Dispenser houses some interesting tech that helps ease that pain point and we’re taking a closer look at how Nuron is changing this tool.
Hilti’s Cordless Adhesive Dispenser promises to save time, help prevent waste, and reduce clean-up time when setting anchors into concrete. One major way it accomplishes that is with the combination of a milliliter-accurate dosage dial and the Hilti Volume Calculator App to help you know exactly which setting to use.
Once you determine the correct setting, simply twist the dial to match and pull the trigger. The tool delivers your adhesive and then backs off to relieve pressure and avoid spillover.
An LED indicator gives real-time feedback to confirm whether the adhesive dispenses correctly or if your cartridge is almost empty.
When it’s time to swap in a new cartridge, there’s a plunge release button at the back that’s easy to hit with your thumb.
One of the biggest benefits of this cordless adhesive dispenser is that it takes the strain off your hands. Whether it’s a thicker adhesive or you’re setting anchors in 100 holes, manual dispensers take a toll on your hands. Employing Hilti’s cordless advantage reduces the fatigue you have to deal with.
From tip to tail, the Hilti Nuron cordless adhesive dispenser measures 17 5/8 inches and stands 10 1/2 inches tall. Designed to apply two-part adhesives, it’s significantly wider than your standard caulk gun, measuring right at 4 1/2 inches.
The grip is a bit on the larger side with a smooth texture and feels comfortable and secure in my medium-size hands. Sweat or grease/oil can introduce some slipping, but a good pair of work gloves will take care of that.
Weight enters at 4.3 pounds bare and 5.5 pounds with a B 22-55 battery. That might seem heavy, and it is compared to a standard dispenser. However, in addition to the battery, motor, and electronics, it’s also a well-built machine. Take the plungers for instance. Not only are they full metal, but they’re also beefy and clearly designed to withstand the demands of applying adhesives over long days on commercial jobsites.
There are several upgrades compared to the previous cordless dispenser and we’re going to key on three specific ones.
First of all, it has Nuron technology built-in. It gives you the ability to track tool maintenance schedules, inventory, location, consumables usage, and much more. Read more about Nuron’s advantages here.
There are a couple of new smart settings on the dial. Should you run out of adhesive mid-cycle, replace the cartridge, run a discard cycle, then turn the dial back to your previous setting and double-tap the trigger. The smart memory will automatically dispense whatever is remaining from the last application.
There’s a repeat function to use with the continuous flow mode. It also works with measured modes but is a little redundant with those. To make it work, turn the dial to continuous mode and fill the hole to the level you’re targeting. If you got the correct amount, flip the dial to repeat mode and it will dispense the same amount on each trigger pull after that.
This Hilti Cordless Adhesive Dispenser retails for $250 as a bare tool and $457 as a preconfigured kit which includes two B 22-55 Nuron batteries and a single-port charger. If you’re taking advantage of Hilti’s Fleet Management pricing, it’s $8.50 per month for the bare tool and $16 per month for the kit.
Hilti backs the dispenser with its impressive 20-year warranty as well as a 2-year free service agreement and 1-day turnaround on service and repairs.
Hilti made a couple of helpful upgrades as it shifted the Cordless Adhesive Dispenser from the 22V platform over to Nuron. In addition to Nuron’s platform-wide advantages, new smart modes make the tool more efficient both in its use of adhesive and your time. Despite an internally complex design, Hilti has made the HDE 500-22 very easy to use and nearly any member of your crew can be up to speed in a matter of minutes.
