Live demos and customer referrals bring repeat and new sales

For Excel Machinery, the PrintPack event was again successful. The company sold four autoplaten die-cutting machines and three automated blanking machines. “From the first day, the footfalls took flight and kept the visitors aboard until the last day,” said Manish Patel, director, Excel Machinery. The company exhibited its larger Maxima HS1020 automatic die-cutting (punching), its Maxima EXB 35 die-cutter, and an automatic blanking with a somewhat novel approach at the event. The tooling for the blanking machines is a simple plastic cutout in the shape of the package that looks like it can be economically produced everywhere on a simple jigsaw machine. The Maxima HS 1020 has a maximum sheet size of 28 x40-inches and a die-cutting and creasing capability of 7,500 sheets an hour. The Maxima EXB 35 has a maximum sheet size of 25 x 35-inch and a cutting speed of 5,000 sheets an hour. “We have an in-house production unit for producing the automatic die-cutter and blanking machines. We don’t import spare parts for the manufacturing of the device. Our product is made in India,” said Patel. The company, to date, has installed 307 die-cutting machines in different regions of India and gives services and consumables to all its customers at a very reasonable cost. Of this total 48 Excel Maxima die-cutters are installed in the Mumbai area itself. Patel noted that PrintPack has always been a favorite venue for the company since it has always resulted in landing successful sales agreements. He anticipates strong results this time, with numerous enquiries flooding in for the larger Maxima HS 1020 that was being demonstrated live. He stated that the event had prompted the firm to receive repeat purchases and new orders from existing customer’s referrals.

The Covid-19 pandemic led to the country-wide lockdown on 25 March 2020. It will be two years tomorrow as I write this. What have we learned in this time? Maybe the meaning of resilience since small companies like us have had to rely on our resources and the forbearance of our employees as we have struggled to produce our trade platforms.

The print and packaging industries have been fortunate, although the commercial printing industry is still to recover. We have learned more about the digital transformation that affects commercial printing and packaging. Ultimately digital will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future.

Web analytics show that we now have readership in North America and Europe amongst the 90 countries where our five platforms reach. Our traffic which more than doubled in 2020, has at times gone up by another 50% in 2021. And advertising which had fallen to pieces in 2020 and 2021, has started its return since January 2022.
