Fine engravings on anything from an aircraft’s wing parts to the finest of jewellery, cutlery or the likes means there is a constant need to either put details on things or create impressions that convey a certain idea or for that matter information. And what better way to get it done than in the most time-tested CNC way of engraving? Speaking of CNC engraving, there can’t be a better way to do it than with the use of machines from N-Gravetek of Nashik in the state of Maharashtra.

N-Gravetek was established in the year 2008 and introduced its first 3-axis CNC Engraving Machine to India. A lot of water has flown under the bridge since then and today they serve over 250 installations all over the world with their 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis CNC Milling Engraving Machines. What has remained from the beginning into the present is their commitment to quality, durability and consistency in their machines that increase profits for manufacturers.

Umed Tambat, Founder and Director of Nashik-based N-Gravetek, a proud Make-in-India manufacturer talks exclusively to Machine Maker about how Precision CNC Engraving machines increased the visibility of their company. He encourages small industries to focus on the quality of the products and provide solution-based products. Umed Tambat and Tushar Tambat veterans of the industry with over a decade of experience founded the company, and they have been manufacturing CNC micro milling machines and most of its parts on their own for micro milling and engraving applications.

Theirs being a unique product, have an invariable PAN India presence with supplying to the private, public sector, and defence where Indian Navy preferring their products. Getting interesting enquiries from overseas, they are set to export their machines shortly. Among N-Gravetech's attributes, their machines stand for precision, accuracy and speed of machining. These apart, they are known for their durability and consistency.

Umed Tambat reminisces their initial days when they faced difficulty integrating the controls with the different kinds of controllers that are required in CNC machines. Back then there were hardly any Indian manufacturers of quality CNC controllers. While they are today available, it remains a challenge for Umed to look for controllers at the right price that are able to adhere to different functionalities. “These kinds of controllers are not manufactured in India so that is still the challenging part,” says Umed talking about the challenges he has faced in the manufacturing of Precision CNC Engraving machines. The design team is headed by Umed’s brother, Tushar Tambad with Mahesh looking after the production. The electronics and the software integration of the machine are looked after by Umed himself.

“Earlier people preferred imported machines” comments Mr Tambat when mentioning how their campaign to create awareness among customers has seen them deal with Indian machines positively. It does seem positive as everyone now wants alternatives to the traditional imported machines in the form of India-made machinery.

In terms of solutions, N-Gravetek provides end-to-end solutions in CNC Milling and Engraving Machines including machine tools, machine operations and software with training. To this end, their products find application in the automobile industry for making inserts, logo engraving in moulds, precise letter engraving, parts marking etc. They also find applications in the forging industry for making punches and copper electrode engraving and the plastic moulding industry for engraving on plastic moulding inserts.

In the jewellery industry making “thappa dies”, gold ring engraving, silver engraving, gold engraving, and gold cutting, the garment industry for CNC engraving of embossing dies, cutting dies, embossing roller, and cutting rollers, the leather industry for CNC engraving of leather embossing dies, leather cutting dies, leather embossing roller, and leather cutting roller, and lastly the printing and packaging industry for CNC engraving of hot foil stamping dies, foil embossing dies, and embossing stamp.

There are some areas where Indian manufacturers have improved dramatically. Umed has also seen a rise in his company’s stature in the global market. He has successfully paved the way in the global market and is getting more visibility outside India. This has continued even in places like IMTEX 2022 where their display was adjudged the best among small-scale industries from Coimbatore. Umed Tambat is today seen as an example among small-scale industries to reach newer heights.
