STOCKTON SPRINGS — Saturday, Sept. 10: Stockton Springs Community Library’s annual “Great Event” takes place on the grounds of the library and Town Office from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It includes a giant community yard sale, live music, barbecue, bake sale, homemade doughnuts, strawberry shortcake, children’s activities, and more. BELFAST — Saturday, Sept. 10: The Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition invites you to join a paddle up the Passagassawakeag River. Paddle your canoe or kayak up the river with the help of the rising tide, past an eagle nest to the Head of Tide. When the tide turns, let it take you back down to Belfast.

Meet trip guide Tom Murphy at the Belfast Boathouse at 10 a.m. Bring your boat, paddle, PFD, water, lunch, protection from rain, sun and wind. Binoculars optional. Trip depends on weather and is limited to 12 boats. Call Tom to register: 603-528-4777.

TROY — Saturday, Sept. 10: There will be a free clinic for rabies shots at the Troy Town Office, 129 Rogers Road, from 9 to 11 a.m. Bring dogs on leashes, cats in carriers. Dr. Sarah Tomalty of Litter River Veterinary Hospital will be the attending veterinarian. Vaccines are free to Waldo County residents and $7 for out-of-county residents. Bring proof of previous rabies vaccination. For more information, contact the Waldo County Humane Society.

BELFAST — Saturday, Sept. 10: Classmates will gather at noon at the Belfast Park Pavilion for their 45th reunion. Members of other Belfast Area High School classes are invited to join them.

Lots More Than Beans Supper

PROSPECT — Saturday, Sept. 10: Prospect Community Center will host its monthly benefit supper, 4 to 6 p.m., at the Prospect Community Center dining room, corner of Routes 1A and 174,  across from the Prospect Fire House. Baked beans, hot dogs, pulled pork, lasagna, American chop suey, macaroni  and cheese, scalloped potatoes, broccoli, clam, and chicken casseroles, fresh salads, homemade pies, cakes, yeast rolls.  Adults $10. SEARSPORT — Saturday, Sept. 10: Searsport United Methodist Church takeout turkey supper begins at 4:30 p.m. They’ll be serving turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, peas, corn, biscuits, cranberry sauce and homemade pies. $10 per person.

BELFAST — Sunday, Sept. 11: Two local events will commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaeda terrorist attacks on U.S. targets, killing almost 3,000 people. The public is welcome to both events.

Belfast Lions Club will conduct its annual Memorial Walk across the Veterans Memorial Bridge, stepping off at 8:46 a.m. to walk three times across the bridge.

Belfast VFW Post 3108 will have a small ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at its headquarters, 34 Field St., then walk to American Legion Post 43 at 143 Church St. for a second ceremony, and then continue down Main Street to the waterfront for a ceremony with first responders and local Boy Scouts.

UNITY — Sunday, Sept. 11, 10 a.m.: Dedication of the bridge that carries Routes 202 and 9 over Sandy Stream. Sen. Chip Curry, whose legislation renames the bridge for hero firefighter Alton “Mac” McCormick, will join town officials for the ceremony at the bridge (bottom of Quaker Hill Road) with speakers, unveiling signs and dropping flowers into the stream in remembrance of those who died in the 1954 flooding. Light refreshments will follow at the firehouse. All are welcome.

BELFAST — Dachshunds and the people who love them are invited to the annual Wienerfest Sunday, Sept. 11, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, at Steamboat Landing Park, with a grand parade, costume contest and Doxie Derby, as well as food and retail vendors. Admission $5; free to dogs and kids under 12.

Makers Guild of Maine Community Open Day

SEARSPORT — Sunday, Sept. 11, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: The Makers Guild of Maine, which raises awareness of hand-making, music-making and cooking skills, invites the public to its free Community Open Day at Searsport Shores Ocean Campground, 216 West Main St. Enjoy live music, attend making classes/demonstrations and shop for handmade items at the Maine Makers Market. Also explore the campground’s organic gardens and woodland trails, rent a kayak, beachcomb and picnic. All ages welcome, but leave pets at home. For more information, visit makersguildmaine.org.

BELFAST — Sunday, Sept. 11: Belfast Free Library and the Office of the Belfast Poet Laureate present a Memorial Poetry Reading featuring poems by Montville poet Karie Friedman (1940-2017) in the library’s Abbott Room at 2 p.m. The event celebrates the life and influence of this poet who died suddenly five years ago.

Waldo County Extension Association annual meeting, tour

BELFAST — Tuesday, Sept, 13: This meeting, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Belfast Soup Kitchen, 31 Belmont Ave., is free and open to the public. The meeting will include a tour, Q&A, farm-to-table dinner and a brief Waldo County Extension Association business meeting. Talk: ‘The Who, What, Where, Whys of PFAS’

BELFAST — Thursday, Sept. 15: The public is invited to attend a presentation by Andrew Carpenter, certified soil scientist and founder of Northern Tilth LLC, at 6:30 p.m. in the Abbott Room of Belfast Free Library. The program is sponsored by the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition. Carpenter will discuss PFAS, addressing concerns that have been expressed, including where they are in our environment and how we can test for them.

BELFAST — Saturday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m. to noon: Bring fibers that need fixing or small electrical appliances that need repair. Bring replacement parts if you have them. Basic bike repairs; sewing machine on hand for mending. To help manage crowding and get basic tools together, please fill out the form at BelfastCommunityWorks.org.

THORNDIKE — Saturday, Sept. 17: Celebrate the town, beginning with a parade at 10 a.m. that starts at the corner of East Thorndike Road and continues down through Gordon Hill Road. Also planned are vendors from all over, live music outside the Central Maine Auction Hall, children’s activities, and lots of food, including a Chicken Barbecue and Cal’s Food Truck. All are welcome!

Nature walk: ‘Mushrooms and Other Fungi’

NORTHPORT — Coastal Mountains Nature Program presents “Mushrooms and Other Fungi” on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon at the St. Clair Preserve (Knights Pond) in Northport. Directions: Take Route 1 to Northport, turn west on Beech Road for 2.3 miles, turn left on Knights Pond Road and drive 1.8 miles to the end.

MONTVILLE — Monday, Sept. 19: The Kingdom Schoolhouse Museum in Center Montville, which is maintained by the Montville Historical Society, will be open to the public from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Historical Society members look forward to welcoming visitors who wish to explore their holdings that reflect the history of Montville and its people.
