Parks & Rec: 10 Memes That Perfectly Sum Up Ron As A Character

Ron Swanson may be grumpy and set in his ways on NBC's Parks & Recreation but he's also hilariously dry and makes the perfect scene for a meme.

Nick Offerman has been busy since his time playing Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation. He’s starred in Fargo, voiced characters on Bob’s Burgers, and was featured in Hulu’s Pam & Tommy. As of late, Offerman is filming Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning - Part Two and is in the new TV series, A League of Their Own.

Offerman hasn’t slowed down with acting, but it’s his time as Ron Swanson that fans love talking about the most. Because of his mustache and “mean mug,” he’s also an easy character to turn into a meme. On Instagram, most of these memes are relatable for Parks and Rec fans, but they also remain true to Ron Swanson’s character.

Ron may not know more about Halloween than April Ludgate, but he does know more about woodworking, the quality of meats, and hunting. This meme speaks to Ron’s character because he had no issues with telling others that he knew more than they did when it came to his specialties.

This was one of Ron’s better quotes because it showed the hilariously honest and dry side of his personality that sometimes got overshadowed at the office.

If Ron could give one piece of advice to others, it would be to live freely and do what they want. Even though Ron worked for the government, he hated being told what to do and wanted to live by his own rules.

In one episode, Ron was pleased to throw a BBQ on behalf of the Parks Department. The only problem was he brought a live pig on a leash and told everyone to “look their dinners in the eyes.” When he was asked for a permit to cook the pig in public, Ron’s permit said “I can do what I want.”

Ron made a slow transformation over the years on Parks and Recreation, but the one thing that didn’t change was Ron’s love for meat and distaste for vegetables or veganism.

This meme is near and dear to Ron’s heart thanks to the episode ‘Soulmates.’ In the episode, Ron wanted to prove to Chris Traeger that his all-beef burger tasted better than his handcrafted veggie burger. The two then entered a cook-off where their friends would choose the better burger. In the end, Ron’s bland hamburger won because, according to him, it was made from meat.

In one opening scene, Ron slammed the coffee machine down on the table in front of his colleagues and asked who broke the coffee machine. Leslie took the blame first but Ron knew she only took the blame to free everyone from interrogation. What transpired was everyone blaming each other for how they were acting and why they were suspected of breaking the coffee maker.

While everyone was arguing in the background, Ron told the cameras that he was the one who broke the coffee maker. He wanted the office to turn into a war zone because he felt like it was getting too “chummy.” Just like the popular Spider-Man meme, Ron pointed the finger at himself but decided to make a point in the office instead.

Ron wasn’t one to give advice unless he found it absolutely necessary. Aside from April, Leslie went to him for advice often, which was when he imparted his life lessons to her. One of his lessons was to live life without regrets.

Since Ron danced to the sound of his own drum, he never felt the need to hangout with his colleagues when he didn’t need to. He was perfectly fine being by himself in his hidden cabin in the woods. Although this meme poked fun at him watching TV all weekend, Ron didn’t care for much TV. Instead, this meme would speak more to his character if he sat in the woods all weekend hunting — regretting nothing.

Ron was a part of some of Parks & Rec’s best foodie moments. He and Leslie frequented JJ’s Diner and ordered their weight in waffles and meats. However, as much as Ron loved his turkey legs and steaks, he didn’t hate all vegetables…

In one scene, Leslie revealed that she knew his secret: he loved artichokes and plums. Ron couldn’t deny this fact, but he did scold her to keep her voice down. Because of his behavior towards healthy foods, this meme screams Ron Swanson.

Ron didn’t care for fashion. He enjoyed a long-sleeved shirt and some dress pants more than the typical suits that his colleagues wore in Pawnee’s City Hall. However, when he caught the flu from Diane’s daughters, he had no choice but to bundle up at work when he had the chills.

Ann tried getting Ron to drink more water and to get some rest, but Ron refused — that was until he fainted at work. Like the meme, Ron might have tried to look professional but that collapsed when he didn't feel well. He wanted to be warm and to be left alone. The last thing on his mind was his fashion sense.

Ron is a full-on introvert. He didn’t care for social gatherings or norms. He was completely fine being by himself, unbothered by others. Unlike characters like Leslie or Ann, he never felt compelled to go to events or parties because of his position at the parks and recreation department.

He simply didn’t go because he didn’t want to. The transparency of his likes and dislikes were what made him one of the best characters on Parks and Rec.

Ron enjoyed the company of a beautiful woman as much as Tom and Andy did. However, unlike Tom, Ron didn’t chase women. His on-and-off relationship with Tammy II was toxic but easy to fall into because of their computability with each other.

When he met an independent woman like Diane, Ron found his match because she didn’t need him the way his exes did. He was able to remain true to himself while loving a woman who loved him. However, this meme resonated with Ron’s single side. He never went hunting for a partner because he wasn’t always interested in other people’s feelings.

This hilarious meme poked fun at Ron’s descriptive skills. He’s a simple man who enjoyed even simpler food. He wasn’t into the same fancy ingredients that Chris Traeger was interested in. He ate meat, drank whisky, and that was about it.

Just like in the show, if Ron made a pizza for his colleagues, and they asked him what kind of pizza it was, his response would be simple: pizza. Since Parks and Recreation and The Office have the same creator, if Ron were to be given a Dundie Award a la Michael Scott, his would be for Best Pizza.
