Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

The Metabo HPT MultiVolt platform continues to expand its offerings for non-committal folks who can’t decide between corded and cordless power. The Metabo HPT 36V Deep Cut Band Saw offers smooth, accurate cuts up to 4-3/4″ deep in conduit, steel pipe, wood, and plastic. With 16% faster cutting and 30% more cutting per blade, the Metabo HPT CB3612DA makes an ideal choice for Pros working in the commercial electrical, plumbing, and air mechanical trades.

Metabo HPT makes some pretty bold claims surrounding the cutting speed of the Deep Cut Band Saw. Their first big claim says that this saw makes cuts 16% faster than its closest competitor. It has a top cutting speed of 640 ft/min. Whether that holds up in testing remains to be seen, but we like competition—and showing some hubris only hurts you if the tool fails to deliver!

Thanks to the brushless motor, the saw maintains consistent performance. In fact, Metabo HPT claims the CB3612DA can cut through stainless steel pipe up to 4 times faster than its closest competitor. We’ll call that Bold Claim #2…Metabo HPT seems to be piling up the challenges!

The Metabo HPT CB3612DA comes with a bi-metal blade that the company says lasts twice as long as a traditional bi-metal band saw blade (bold claim #3). If true that means this saw not only blazes through cuts, but you only have to change out the blade half as often.

The Metabo HPT Deep Cut Band Saw features a variable speed dial. That lets you slow down the speed for certain metals to optimize blade life and cut more efficiently. You can set it anywhere between 200 and 640 ft/min.

It also has an Auto-mode function that automatically adjusts blade speed to suit the material you’re cutting. This should have the added benefit of extending runtime while simultaneously dropping the noise output of the saw.

Speaking of runtime, Metabo HPT claims you can get a whole day’s worth of cutting done on one 4.0Ah battery. Or, because the Metabo HPT CB3612DA operates on the MultiVolt platform, you can hook it up to the AC power adapter for use with a wall outlet. On most hand tools this feature seems impractical, but for a bandsaw, it could get you out of a bind.

The Metabo HPT Deep Cut Saw features the expected LED light to help you see what you’re doing. It also includes a pivoting hook that lets you hang its 16.5-lb. weight up in between cuts.

Clearly, Metabo HPT makes some seriously bold claims with this band saw. If, however, the company did as great a job on this tool as they did with the Triple Hammer impact driver or their MultiVolt 7-1/4″ miter saw, we can expect big results.

You can pick up the Metabo HPT MultiVolt Deep Cut Band Saw kit for $489. It comes with a 4.0Ah 36V MultiVolt battery, 44-7/8” x 1/2” x 0.020 18 TPI bi-metal blade, rapid charger, and plastic case. Like all of the tools in Metabo HPT’s cordless lineup, this one comes with a 5-year warranty on the tool body.
